Primary and Secondary Processing
First and second wood processing at Scierie Moulin
Our core business is wood processing: primary and secondary processing.
Primary processing consists of debarking, sorting and cutting logs from the forest to length, then sawing the raw timber into a variety of products: beams, rafters, planks, battens, rafters, etc. These products can be used directly or destined for secondary processing. Secondary processing involves giving the wood a final finish by drying, planing and treating it, thereby improving its quality and durability.
Thanks to our expertise and advanced technologies, we can produce all types of wood products from start to finish, tailored to the needs of all your projects.
Sawmilling: Primary wood processing
The first essential stage in our process is sawing, where we transform logs and bolts into sawn timber.
The sawing process begins at the log yard
Stage 1: Reception and
sorting of round timber
Our teams in the forest and our buyers supply the log yard directly with logs. Sorting this wood is a strategic part of our process to guarantee the material yield and sawing quality expected in production. All timber is debarked. Long timbers are cut to optimise the material according to the curves and characteristics of each log. All the logs are then sorted by length, species, quality and diameter, ready to be sawn!
Stage 2: Sawing
The sawmill has 3 sawing lines, each dedicated to a different type of product.
Sawing aims to maximise the products obtained per log, while the residues are transformed into sawdust and chips for Moulin Bois Énergie. Our scanners and modern equipment enhance the comfort of our operators.
Drying: Stabilising wood over time
Drying wood is an essential stage in guaranteeing its dimensional stability and its interior application. With over 20 years’ experience in drying, we dry fir, spruce and Douglas fir from 18% to 12%.
We combine traditional know-how with cutting-edge technology to dry the wood.
We also offer high-temperature treatment for wood used in the manufacture of packaging, crates and pallets. Our kilns are approved for ISPM15 treatment (see certifications tab).
ISPM 15 (International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures n°15) stipulates that wood from regions or countries infested by certain forest insects must be disinsectised before being introduced into another territory. This standard aims to limit the spread of harmful organisms between continents.
Planing for a perfect finish
Planing is a key stage in the secondary transformation of wood. Our planing lines enable us to produce a wide variety of profiles, from the simplest (4 chamfers) to the most complex (false chamfer).
Slotting also makes it possible to produce laths, battens and battens from raw timber from the sawmill. Packaged in bundles for easy handling of small products.
Treatment: protecting and preserving wood
Treating wood is a crucial step in ensuring its longevity and resistance to the elements.
Scierie Moulin is fully equipped to treat wood products in an environmentally-friendly way. Our new automated treatment line recovers all drippings and avoids direct discharge into the environment.
We offer a range of treatments:
